We will remember them
We would like to pay tribute today on Veterans Day (Saturday 11 November) to all American veterans who served their country during war or peacetime, with a special mention for both our current and former students who are veterans. Veterans Day occurs on the same date every year in the US in honour of the 鈥渆leventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918 that signalled the end of World War I, known as Armistice Day.
Armistice Day will also be marked in the UK, together with Remembrance Sunday this weekend, when people across the UK honour those who have lost their lives in war. Millions of red poppies are sold each year in the build-up to the day to commemorate the war dead, while the nation will fall silent at 11am in tribute.
For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
